Following a meeting of delegates on 16th June 2015 it was agreed that the sale of the HBA Library would not take place and an offer by Portsmouth and District BKA to take over the administration of the library and to run it under the banner of HBA according to the existing library rules, was accepted.
Since then the library has been removed from commercial storage, and its new home, a designated room at The Sustainability Centre, East Meon, has been decorated. Shelving and furniture will soon be installed so borrowing and research may be resumed as soon as possible. To mark the re-launch of the library, a couple of Library Open Days were organised during August 2015 at the Sustainability Centre.
Thanks to the hard work of a group of volunteers and with the support of Portsmouth & District BKA the Library is now up and running with books available for loan and the reference section is available for members’ research.
The Library Room at The Sustainability Centre is open every Wednesday from 2pm to 6pm and arrangements can be made to visit at other times. (Contact Avril Tillman on 01329286839 or 07804819443) The Library Room, although small, does offer facilities for individual private study and research. In the case of difficulty visiting the Library Room and if you know which books you are interested in, arrangements could be made for delivery/collection at meetings or via other members.
There will be a Library presence at The HBA Convention in November so you might like to peruse the list of books available for loan and place an ‘order’ which can be collected on the day. Of course normal Library Rules will apply re safeguarding collection and return.
Cataloguing is continuing and it is evident that there are some books that are unaccounted for. Some of these may have been borrowed during the Library’s doldrum period and there is no record of their whereabouts so I would ask that all members search their book shelves and return anything that belongs to the Library. No questions will be asked!
On a similar theme if members wish to donate any surplus, unloved, outgrown, or generally unwanted bee books, all offers will be gratefully received. Thank you.
If you wish to borrow a specific book please don’t hesitate to contact me, Avril on 01329 286839.
