Hampshire Beekeepers’ Association owns a large collection of books about bees and related topics.
Following a meeting of delegates on 16th June 2015 it was agreed that the proposed sale of the HBA Library would not take place. An offer by Portsmouth and District BKA to take over the administration of the library and to run it under the banner of HBA according to the existing library rules was accepted.
Thanks to the hard work of a group of volunteers and with the support of Portsmouth & District BKA the Library is now up and running with books available for loan, and the reference section is available for members’ research.
The Library Room at The Sustainability Centre is open every Wednesday from 2pm to 6pm and arrangements can be made to visit at other times. (Contact Avril Tillman on 01329286839 or 07804819443). The Library Room, although small, does offer facilities for private study and research. For those who find it difficult to visit the Library Room, and if specific books can be identified, arrangements could be made for delivery or collection at meetings or through other members.
Cataloging is ongoing and inevitably some books are unaccounted for. Some of those may have been borrowed during the Library’s doldrum period and there is no record of their whereabouts. Could all members please check their bookshelves and return anything that belongs to the Library. No questions will be asked!
On a similar theme if members wish to donate any surplus, unloved, outgrown, or generally unwanted bee books, all offers will be gratefully received. Thank you.
If you wish to borrow a specific book from this book list please don’t hesitate to contact me, Avril on 01329 286839.
