HBA Autumn Convention 2016 Report

The Convention held at Sparsholt College near Winchester on 5 November 2016 was a great success. After the President opened proceedings, Dan Basterfield started the talks by giving an erudite and hugely entertaining review of bee dances and communication in the hive.  This was followed by two workshops on Thermal Conductance in the hive, and the reasons for changing combs and the best practice for doing so.  After lunch two more workshops covered nutrition and just how much bees need good pollen, and bee pests and diseases – including inevitably progress in the eradication of the Asian Hornet.  Finally Margaret Murdin  – then Chairman BBKA – finished the day with a most comprehensive and fascinating talk on Queens.
