HBA / BIBBA Sustainability Bees & Queens for Everyone

here is growing concern amongst beekeepers of all abilities and experience regarding the impact of the importation of bees and queens. Possible risks include:-
- The introduction of pests (e.g. Small Hive Beetle and Tropilaelaps – both notifiable), diseases and pathogens.
- Aggression in subsequent generations.
- Unsuitability to our fickle climate, along with higher-than-expected winter losses.
- Genetic contamination of both managed and free-living honey bee populations.
HBA / BIBBA One Day Beekeeping Course “The Early Years”
Sunday 23rd February 2025 – Ampfield Village Hall, Hampshire
A one-day course to help and encourage beekeepers in their formative years who wish to move on from their initial teaching, gaining ideas, knowledge and skills that should help them understand their bees more, so becoming better beekeepers. The tutors are practical beekeepers who will pass on the experiences gleaned from many years in the craft. For a variety of reasons, beekeepers learn and progress at different rates. To appeal to all beekeepers, the programme has interesting topics that should encourage attendees to find out more and explore different methods, some of which may not be found in standard teaching material.
HBA AGM 2025
Monday 10th March 2025 – Itchen Abbas Village Hall, SO21 1BQ. Startr 19:00 – 22:00
Delegates from the 14 associations will be attending the HBA AGM. Association should elect one delegate for every 20 members or part of 20 to attend the AGM on behalf of the members.
HBA AHAT Convention 2025
Saturday 1st March 2025 – Shawford Village Hall, Shawford, Winchester between 0900 – 1700
An event for AHAT Officers based within Hampshire and surrounding counties. We will be personally invited AHAT Officers via eR2 with the agenda for the day n the new year.
HBA & NBU Honey Bee Health and Beekeeper Education Day 2025
Sunday 16th March 2025 at Sainsbury Building, Sparsholt Collage, Winchester. Start 09.00 – 15.00
Join other beekeepers for a day of talks, workshops and networking. If you’re a new beekeeper or just a beekeeper, it’s good to be able to identify pest and diseases in the hive. Especially as we have seen a rise in EFB in the county. Pick up your early bird tickets before they are all gone.
