Following the fully successful Honey Bee Health day last June, we will be running a Honey Bee Health & Beekeeper Education day in 2025.
The event will be hosted by Sparsholt College in the Sainsbury Building which has a lecture theatre with capacity for 100 people, classrooms, and break-out/workshop rooms, each accommodating around 30 people.
Reception will be open from 09:00 am.
Please book in, collect your name badges and then enjoy a cup of tea or coffee, and catch up with fellow beekeepers.
Please take your seats in the main lecture by 0930 for an introduction by Dan Etheridge from the NBU. This will be followed with an update by Maggie Gill into research projects looking at the tropilaelaps Mite.
There will then be a chance to soak in the information from these first lectures over a nice cup of tea or coffee.
You will then be split into three groups for the first of three workshops which will cover Spring dwindle and Nosema, and “When the Inspector calls” – a master class in disease inspection.
The third workshop will be beekeeper education. We aim to provide a level of workshop to suit your needs, whether you are a new beekeeper considering the Basic Assessment or an experienced beekeeper working towards the General (or Advanced) Husbandry Assessment. For those that have passed the Basic Assessment a few years ago, there is a new Honey Bee Health Assessment which will be covered in one of the workshops.
Please complete the Beekeeper Education Survey at this link so that we can plan the groups to meet your needs: https://forms.gle/B1aLxDYP3eTbvuit9
Lunch will be from 12:15 pm until 1:15 pm and food can be purchased on campus. We aneed to provide numbers for the catering team so you will be asked “Do you wish to have lunch at the venue” at the eventbrite checkout
Fopllowing the workshops, there will be final session in the Sainsbury Lecture Theatre and the day will finish at around 16:30.
